Ikonyk Hills training for staff and other local farmers

In June 2022, Ikonyk Hills Avocado farm, in coordination with NGO Catholic Relief Services’ farmer-to-farmer program, welcomed Mary Matava, an experienced agronomist and president of Agriservice, a biowaste composting service in Oceanside, California.

Mary‘s expert training provided a variety of avocado-specific techniques, including overall farm care strategies, and soil fertility methods, which left our the farm in more knowledgeable and capable hands. The training also benefitted several other small holder avocado farmers from around Kamonyi District with whom Ikonyk Hills is partnering.

Before leaving Rwanda, Mary made sure to take advantage of the life-changing experience of visiting the endangered mountain gorillas in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park.
